We have been making artisan soaps and other bath and body products for several years now. We first discovered melt‑and‑pour soap, a simpler form of what we currently do. It offers many great crafting options for making your own soap, but it doesn’t give you the same control over ingredients — and we needed that, with multiple family members dealing with skin conditions such as rosacea and eczema.
We turned to traditional soap‑making methods, starting with cold‑process soap, after researching the benefits of using simpler ingredients and avoiding chemical, over‑the‑counter, mass‑produced soaps. That led to other forms of skincare formulation, and before long, we were completely hooked on natural skincare. What began as a side hobby quickly became a full‑blown business.
We navigated local farmers markets and pop‑ups and introduced our products into local boutiques through our own curated booths.
Now we want to make our products available nationwide, and we are excited to launch our most unique product line yet — Pups and Peeps, a carefully formulated collection designed for both dogs and their owners.
How It’s Made
Everything here is handmade in small batches. Each product is formulated with a purpose and with you in mind. Oils are weighed, lye is mixed into distilled water, the two are blended, and the batch is poured into a mold and left to go through saponification. The next day or so — depending on the batch ingredients — the loaf is cut by hand, and the bars are placed on the curing rack for a full six weeks so the water can evaporate and the bar can harden. That wait is the reason a natural, homemade bar lasts in the shower instead of melting away in a week.
The ingredients are what set a Sagebrush bar apart. We do not skimp on ingredients, and we do not stop at “good enough.” Every formulation is made with a curated list of natural additives chosen for a purpose.
Our liquid soap is cooked from pure olive oil, just as it has been done for centuries in Castile — only we make ours in a crockpot instead of a huge vat. It is made to order with your chosen scent or left unscented. Our lotion is crafted with gentle vegan ingredients and also made to order by scent. Our Paw Balm is made from dog‑safe, premium ingredients; nothing is a throwaway item or filler simply because it is a pet‑centered product.
We like to ask questions and think about your needs and challenges — not just with your soap, but with your life. For example, how much chemical dog soap gets on you when you’re simply trying to clean your furry family members. We see that need, and we fill it.
Vegan and Non‑Vegan, and Why Both Exist
We offer a range of products for a reason. Many natural ingredients are beneficial to the skin, but not all of them are desired by every customer. So we provide variety.
Vegan bars are made with plant oils only — olive, coconut, shea, castor, hemp. Non‑vegan bars use the same base oils, plus they may feature animal‑derived ingredients like tallow, lard, or goat’s milk.
Both options are clearly labeled and filterable, and all ingredients are always listed on every bar. We also respect the choice to live a vegan lifestyle by creating our vegan soaps with color‑coded equipment that is kept separate from non‑vegan tools. It’s important to vegans, so it’s important to us.
